Indeed, but the positive point is that people at least speak about it. I'll see what the students come with anyway... 'coz I'm not making the commentary for them... : )

Interesting topic, it really is a topical issue... I mean, in my opinion, that advert is a failure, since those questionable photos are so borderline that you forget the subject they are supposed
 to deal with.

The report takes place in Italy.
It deals with the "Let's pizza machine" , a demanding-machine which sells fresh pizza.
There are 4 choices of pizza. You can select the ingredient/topping.
It's ready in 3 minutes and it only costs 7 bucks/dollars.
It looks tasty/delicious/gorgeous/yummy/scrunptious even if I think it must be better when we knead the dough with our own hands.
I would like to try it ; why don't we have this type of machine at the highschool ?

-Speech verbs and expressions:
announced mechanically
mumbled
said nervously with her lovely Martian accent
told him in an uptight voice

-Rich vocabulary:
amazed
traffic-jam
fed up with
gorgeous
damn it
uptight
awesome
seems

-Expressions of surprise:
What an incredible situation !
But what a strange on !
There were so many flying cars between the Earth and Mars !
How fantastic it was to meet people from different galaxies!
Four dimensions seemed so real!

 09/03/10

Warm up : When I was a little boy/girl, I used to play with both with a barbie doll and soldiers
younger
with guns. I liked undressing the couples and “making love”, I used to watch TV a lot and I wanted to reproduce what I saw on it.

Bigger brother – younger sister = sibling : frères et soeurs
Chop ! Chop ! “ Vite ! Vite ! “ => plutôt utilisé dans les dialogues

Verbes de goût tjs +ING

Leçon :

Santa (Claus) = Father Christmas

The text deals with a killing/shooting spree (folie meurtrière, fusillade) in the US. The children got the guns from their parents. It was a gift for Christmas. I believe the parents are crazier
than the child. If it happened in France, I would think it wasn’t real.

In France, a fee month ago, a kid arrived* at school with a gun. He had stolen* it from his father who was a policeman. Luckly, he was arrested* on time. His father had warned* ( to warn = alerter,
 prévenir) the police.

*arrived : prétérit
* had stolen : plus-que-parfait, had+p.passé, action antérieure a “ arrived” => rupture chronologique à la narration
* was arrested : preterit, passif
* had warned : plus-que-parfait

10/03/10

Warm up : The document is a news report from MSNBC.com, an American news channel. It deals with the “let’s pizza”vending machine. This machine kneads (labourer) the dough (pâte), puts tomato sauce
and toppings (ingredients) on the pie (forme ronde à partir de la pâte). Then it bakes (cuire au four) it in less than 3 minutes.
I personally find it surreal/unbelievable. What’s more (=moreover), it’s worrying because it| may destroy jobs.
|Increase unemployment.
However, I’m sure it isn’t tasty/yummy/delicious/scrumptions (qui a du gout). I prefer hand-made food/home-made food. It’s $7 = seven dollars = seven bucks.

Leçon :

In the text, the author puts forward (metre en avant/valeur* ) the role of the American gun culture. He also highlights* the role of video games and violent movies. He believes that children can be
more influenced than a grown-up/an adult. As far as I’m concerned (Selon moi,…), I don’t totally agree. For sure, it may be one reason but not the main. For me, education and the social environment
have a primary role. I also believe that is a vicious circle : violence triggers (entrainer) violence.

The document depicts a concert stage. We can see lots of spotlights.
There are 3 symbols which represent the main religions. They make the word "coexista".
It means religions shouldn't fight but try to unify.
It symbolizes the unity of the world.
The song is probably by U2. They are committed singers. They fight for peace and against war.
Moreover , I recognize the translation of the lyrics.
† : the Catholic/ Christian Cross.
( : the Muslim Crescent.
(I didn't find the symbol) the Star of David : the Jewish symbol.

Translation of the lyrics
I can't believe the news/information today.
I can't even close my eyes and make all that disappear.
How long time, how long time must we sing this song?
How long time?
Tonight, we can be together.
Broken bottles under children's feet.
Bodies which cover the floor of a dead-end street.(or) Bodies which strew across a dead-end street.
But I won't listen to the war call/scream.
It drives my back against the wall , against the wall.

Vocabulary :
to chill out = relax
to strew = joncher
to wipe (away) = essuyer
to tear = déchirer

When I was a little boy/girl, I was to play dolls with my sister/brother. I know that Claire's brother used to have lot of barbie dolls.
We are more shocked when a boy plays with a doll than when a girl plays with a gun. Society fears that he might be gay another prejudice.

the text is about two children who shot their classmates and teachers in the US(Killin spree).
they have received their guns at christmas in France, some similar event ma happen even if they seem surreal. A few months ago, a teenager went to his high school with the intention of killing
everyone. He had taken the gun from his father who was a henter. Luckly, when he arrived at school, he was arrested. His father had called/warned the police.
