so today we did the same as last time: seeing how we could answer nearly all the questions for sure thanks to the questions themselves... it's as easy as 1,2,3!

Tomorrow, I will give the essays / dialogues back to those who had turned them in.

Then during the 2nd part of our time, we will study a new text and create questions as if they were the exam questions. Then we'll check our questions / answers with what was actually made by the government a few years ago.

Hi guys,

so today we first tried to understand the story of Donald Woods, Steve Biko, ... a little bit more focusing on analysing the content of the different characters' speeches.

Here is what we said about the oppositions in the text:

Then we watched the scene in the movie adapted from the novel. You can watch it again below (beginning at 26'30):

Finally, we analysed the 2012 Pondichéry exam together and we saw how EASY it was to answer the questions... It's even sometimes possible (actually nearly ALWAYS) to answer the questions even BEFORE reading the text, huh!

Today we first worked on the following video entitled: "Voluntourism". You first had to guess what this could be thanks to the word itself and then find information from the document to support your assumptions. You can watch the document again below:

Then we continued the class with the correction for your reading test about video games addictions.

Finally, we resumed our work on South Africa with the study of the text entitled "Black and White". You had to make a recap of basic information about the situation in the text + highlight the speech tags or attitudes that could indicate how the characters spoke or behave.

HW:

- finir le relevé et surtout CLASSER les éléments repérés selon qu'ils ont une connotation négative / neutre / positive. Ce relevé vous permettra de voir la progression des sentiments dans le texte et donc l'atmosphère qui règne dans cette scène.

Quelque soit le document traitant de "Global Warming", il faudra à un moment donné (Analyse, Hidden Context, ou Branch Out) aborder ces questions des CAUSES / CONSEQUENCES / SOLUTIONS --- Pour amorcer une solution, vous pouvez utiliser les structures du conseil déjà étudiées lors de la séquence sur "Food and Obesity" lorsque nous avons parlé des conseils de Michelle Obama pour combattre le fléau. Ici il s'agit également d'un combat.

---> We should ... + BV (attention à la pronciation de /SHOULD/ sans [L].

---> We ought to ... + BV

---> We had better + BV

Utilisez le document ci-dessus pour trouver et compléter vos propres idées. Ex:

- We ought to ... switch to green power... because burning fossil fuels produces carbon dioxyde ("aïe, aïe, aïe..." )

- We had better ... walk or cycle for short distances...  because using a car is more pollutant and less healthy for our body and for the planet.

- We ought to ... plant more trees... because deforestation contributes to heating up the atmosphere.

Vous pouvez m'envoyer vos phrases par écrit ou par oral en vous enregistrant sur votre téléphone portable et en m'envoyant vos fichiers. Je vous corrigerai aussi rapidement que possible en terme de grammaire et de phonétique.

today we first started the lesson with a quick viewing of a video about obesity and you had to react about it as if it were a document for your oral exam.

Pascal volunteered after a long period of silence... too bad for you that you don't want to practise; don't you dare tell me that you have done everything you could and that you don't understand your final grade...

Here is the quick correction that I wrote for you on the board as Pascal was speaking and developing his ideas.

Then we started the last oral activity of the year with a worksheet about global warming (pronunciation, causes and consequences). Thanks to Mrs Menenteau for sharing this great document.

HW:

- Finir la fiche de travail (prononciation, causes, consequences).

- pour ceux qui étaient absents vendredi dernier et pour ceux dont les enregistrements n'ont pas été faits correctement, vous DEVEZ m'envoyer une nouvelle production [oral sur l'image choisie] par internet avant la fin de la 1ère semaine des vacances.

- Pour la rentrée, vous avez à rédiger l'argumentation (essay) en vous aidant des deux fiches distribuées ("Write On" et "Link Words").

- Révisez votre méthode, votre vocabulaire, et entraînez-vous à parler sur les thèmes que nous avons abordés cette année et qui sont susceptibles de tomber pour votre examen oral (Mercredi 16 mai si mes informations sont exactes; vous aurez une convocation à la rentrée). Vous pouvez vous enregistrez et m'envoyer votre fichier son pour que je vous donne des conseils de dernière minute si vous le souhaitez. Voici quelques uns des thèmes possibles:

- Teenager-parent relationship (rebellion, generation gap, ...).

- Guns (policies in the US, school shootings, ...).

- The Law (death penalty, road safety [e.g. texting when driving], ...).

Hi guys,

today you first listened to Holly's presentation according to your document. You had to take notes while listening to complete your own presentation of the same document. Then you could read Holly's notes for 5 minutes so that you could add some more information if you had forgotten any important pieces.

Finally, you had to record your own (improved) presentation of the same documents.

Let's hope it's helped you. You MUST get ready for your final exam; it will take place just after the holidays and we still have one more topic to deal with (the environment... ... ...)
