today your first had to work and make research on the Internet to prepare your dossiers and above all the line of analysis that goes with it.

You will have to finish this for next Monday.

Then we watched some of your Vincent short film adaptation. It was pretty funny, wasn't it? to watch what some of you had done? And then the winners for "best actress", "best music", "best sound effects", ... went home with their prize! Congratulations to all the winners and their partners.

You can watch two of your classmates' videos here again (let's discover a new one!):

Hi guys,

today we first talked about the problems you may have had with dubbing Vincent... then we continued the class with a summary of what had been done this year and I gave you some guidelines in order to understand how to create your dossiers for next year.

You can download the worksheet here again:

1--107-.png

HW:

Hi guys,

today we watched the short animated movie "Vincent" but with sound this time. I hope you liked it as well as the analysis we could draw out of it. Here is what we said:

"to be written by..."

For next time, i.e. Thursday 31st, you need to wrap up your personal Vincent file (with the dubbing of the voice-over, and the sound track).

You can watch the movie down here again:

HW:

Hello again guys,

let me first tell you again how disappointed I am in your behaviour today at the beginning of the class... Once more I had to get REALLY angry before you actually considered talking and so that we could correct your homework for today. Your being MUTE has to eventually STOP!!! This situation can no longer continue... I've been telling you this since the beginning of the year! You are supposed to come to class with things to say and be willing to say them; you were not forced to choose this "option LVA", you had 3 choices. So if you didn't want to talk and work a lot in English, you should have selected another option. I personally work a lot for you guys and I just CAN'T STAND such a behaviour. The only thing I want to call you right now is: "ungrateful mummified little slackers!" So prove me wrong next time and actually DO something with my teaching and your being a student, and SPEAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well... now... let's talk about what we did today.

You finally captionned all of the 5 pictures and we improved what you had said thanks to comparisons and contrasts made between what the character could be thinking and what the character could be saying for instance. You need to make the best out of this class to improve your final project.

Here are all the possibilities that you finally mentionned:

"to be written by ..."

We then worked on sentence stress and saw some basic rules about how to speak English with a correct pronunciation. You will partly be assessed on that point for your project.

I finally showed you in the end how to mix a video with a soundtrack thanks to Windows Movie Maker. You may need to use this website to look for and include special sounds in your sound tracks:

1--190-.png

HW:

Files:

- vous pouvez accéder à la "mute version of Vincent" ici. (clic droit -> enregistrer la cible sous...)

http://ddata.over-blog.com/3/18/86/31/1ere/Tim-Burton/Vincent/victoria-price-testimony---vincent.jpgHi guys,

today we continued working on "Vincent" but it was hard to make you actually work at the beginning since you had not gone over your notes very well before coming to class...

Well, then you watched the short movie again and you had to match adjectives and phrases according to the characters' personalities (when Vincent is "Vincent Malloy" or "Vincent Price").

Here is what we said about the characteristics and their justifying:

"to be written by ..."

Then in the 2nd part of the hour, I gave you five preparatory sketches by Tim Burton that he made before creating his stop motion movie. You had to find an original caption for each of them.

Here is today's worksheet:

Folder Videos

HW:

Hi guys,

today I collected your videos about the recipe for the MasterChef contest. I also gave the different criteria for the assessment of your future oral exam.

Then we continued the lesson with the start of your last project of the year. You will have to dub the following short film by Tim Burton:

Here is what we said about the document:

"to be written by ..."

HW:

Hi guys,

today you first gave a brief oral account about "Maus", i.e. the last group came to the board to give out the presentation about this question: "Why is it important for the author to tell this story?"

Then we continued with a matching exercise about food: Picture / Ingredients / Dish / Country.

And we watched the following comedy sketch:

Hope you enjoyed it; it was a shame we didn't have a lot of time for the analysis... too bad...

Today was Holly's last lesson with you guys; I hope you have enjoyed this year with her as she has done her best to keep you interested and share her own culture with you.

See you after the holidays.

Take care,

Mr Hattais.

HW:

Hi guys,

today you first worked in groups to achieve the best possible answers for your analytical questions about the comic book "Maus" by Art Spielgelman.

Here the notes that you took from the different presentations:

(wirtten by Déborah) - Why was important for the artist to write this story?

It's important for Artie to tell this story because :
- He needs to commemorate his father's memory. It's a tribute to him.
- He may want to alleviate the pain of his father and share a last useful and loving moment with him before his death.
- Moreover, it's important for him to know his own story (i.e. the story of his family) and to testify about it.
- He takes part in denouncing the horrible reality of the Jewish conditions of living during the second World War but it is also a way of showing the Nazi system.
- Finally, writing this book for him is as if he kept a souvenir of his father before his death and his memory alive. It's a token of love.

(written by Maude) - What about the animals to represent people in the story?
English people would be cows because they are said to eat a lot of beef and because of the famous mad cow disease.
Americans would be dogs because they are thought to eat lots of hot dogs.
And French people would be frogs or skunks like "Pepé le pew" because one stereotype about the French is that they smell bad.
Another possbile couple prey --- predator which could have been used by the artist to represent the Jews and the Nazis would have been the wolf and the sheep or lamb or the lion and the antilope although the latter couple is less rooted into children popular culture.

(written by Mailys) - Why did the author chose to represent people as animals ?
The author chose to represent people as animals because he wanted to insist on
the hunt of the Jews by the Nazis (the Jews are depicted as mice and the Nazis as cats). Moreover, he may have wanted to dehumanize people because of the horror of the Holocaust.

"to be written by the other members of the different groups"

HW:

Hi guys,

today you had a speaking competition / marathon dealing with fun facts about food.

Here is the worksheet that we used.

1--229-.png

Then we finished nearly everything that we had started and reviewed vocabulary related to cookery.

Here is the entire correction for your crossword puzzle:

1--265-.png

HW:

3-5 minutes.

- terminer la préparation de vos interventions pour "MasterChef" (= back story of the contestant, the story of your dish, the recipe of your dish including the steps and ingredients)

- compte-rendu "Maus" avec question de "follow-up" déterminée par Holly.

Have a safe trip to Italy!

Hi guys,

today you had to present the pages you had worked on last time to the class, find a title, and re-order them on a timeline, deciding which panels came first and last.

Here are the notes that you took from your speeches:

"to be written by ..."

HW:

Hi guys,

before really starting the class today I first recommended you to log on to this website to practise and improve your pronunciation. It is VERY useful (above all the trial period for free... :)

Capture-copy-1.JPG

Then we talked about food and made a quick recap of last time's lesson.

Finally, you had to work in teams to make a summary of two texts about "crisps" on the one hand and "cookies" on the other.

Here are some of the notes you took from what people said:

"to be written by ..."

At the end of the lesson, you had to work on new vocabulary by completing a fun activity with jumbled up letters in some words.

Download the worksheet here:

1--259-.png

HW:

1-
You will prepare your recipe in front of the camera in your kitchen.
You need to show and talk about the different ingredients and steps to cook it; and also about the history of the dish.

Due --- Monday 7th May
2-
You will present your recipe to a jury composed of three people who will ask you questions about your dish.
a) Student 1 will be the contestant.
b) Student 2 will be the "narrator" of the show to build up the contestant's back story.
