Hey,

today you were only two to attend the class so we did a special vocabulary activity to review the words we have learnt this year.

We'll continue this "game" next time.

Take care,

Mr Hattais.

Hey,

today you took your last test of the year. It consisted in re-writing the dialogue between Donald Woods and the black family he went to visit. You had to write both an introduction and the dialogue itself. I will give you back your grades on Friday.

Until then, you can have a closer look at the mock exam exercise I gave you and particularly focus on the questions so as to deduce the answers to most of the answers.

Take care,

Mr Hattais.

Please DO bring your books next time because it's a real pain in the neck when you don't have it and it's not very convenient to work without it, is it...?

Hi,

today you first had to analyse a picture as if it were your final exam. I gave you 10 minutes to prepare and then I asked you to speak. As your presentation was not long enough, I had to ask you lots of questions and show you how to really analyse the picture fully.

Here is the picture:

Here is the commentary:

"yet to be uploaded"

Then (with the first group only) we worked on "colourless words" so that you can improve your written expression.

Here is a copy of the worksheet:

Hey,

today we first commented on a report from the website Reuters. You can watch it again here:

Here is what we said about it:

The document is a report by the news agency "Reuters". It deals with the failed terrorist attack in Time Square, NY.
Barack Obama is both reassuring and threatening. He says that he will protect the American people but that he will punish the terrorists during a trial.

Then we started our new sequence entitled "South Africa" and we commented on the picture below:

0--Flags.jpg

Here is what we said about it:

South Africa:

The flags of countries always have a symbols / meanings.
For instance, the French flag was adopted after the French Revolution. It symbolizes freedom. The colour of Paris (red/blue) encircle the colour of royalty (white). It means that people have the power and not the king / people have the power over the king.

South African Flag:

The flag symbolizes the natural ressources of the country:
-> yellow = gold
-> blue = fish
-> green = trees

The red colour stands for blood and the troubles.
Indeed, before, South Africa was colonized. The blacks and whites were separated / divided during Apartheid.
The "Y" stands for the unity of the people after Apartheid.

MANY OF YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN TO TURN IN THEIR DIALOGUES TODAY... TOO BAD...
