Hey,

today we first discussed about the positive and negative aspects of uniforms at school as a warm up and here is what we said:

Nadia thinks "uniforms at school" is a good idea against discrimination and social inequalities. She believes it would be a good idea if the uniform was trendy and plain. The colours mustn't be flashy. It could be black.
As for Soumaya, "uniforms at school" is a bad idea because students should be free to wear what they want. Clothes are a style for Hasret. They are a part of her personality.
Even if there were uniforms at school, discrimination would still be present.

Then we did a quick recap of important vocabulary words from the text and we continued speaking about it, particularly about the two last paragraphs. Here is what we said:

The best title of the last two paragraphs is certainly "trying to get out of misery" because Daleidy and her parents used to be poor in the Dominican Republic. Now they are still poor. Her father is a taxi driver and her mother is probably a maid.
But the situation is going to change thanks to Daleidy's success at school.
Some students are really hard-working while American-born students are slackers. Immigrants are sometimes scornful because they are upset with these behaviours.

HW: get ready for a test on the text and on the lesson.
