we first started the lesson by commenting on the picture entitled "Coexist" that you can see below.

Here is what we said about it:

The main religions in the Western world

† : the Catholic / Christian Cross.
☪ : the Muslim Crescent (Moon).
✡ : the Star of David (the Jewish symbol). 


Picture analysis: COEXIST
The document is a photo. It depicts a concert stage ; There are spot lights and a little smoke like in a concert. The atmosphere is gloomy because the main colours are red and black. It may symbolizes Hell.
The colour red stands for (= symbolizes) blood and the black represents darkness. It may recall the blood shed in a civil war.
It may recall "Bloody Sunday" when many civilians died. They were shot by the British police.
 

Then we continued the lesson listening to the song "Bloody Sunday" by U2. Here is what we said about it (sounds, voice, lyrics):

The Song: Sunday Bloody Sunday
=> At the beginning, the sounds of the drums recall the sounds of gun shots. It's as if it were a machine gun.

The voice of the singer sounds gloomy. It's as if he were whining.
