Hey guys,

today we first worked as a warm up on French stereotypes. Here is what we said:

Warm up : French stereotypes

French people

are said to eat cheese a lot

are believed to like eating frogs

are thought to be crazy about snails

Of course it's a stereotype. When tourists come to France, they can these dishes on the menu. Snails can be served as starters or an entree but most people in France don't eat any. They think it's horrible and it must taste gooey.

The French as seen by the British:

  - Fashion:
The French are thought to like luxury brands.
The French are said to be addicted to luxury brand.

  - Racism:
The French are believed to be racist.

  - Hygiene:
The French are said to never take a shower.
The French are believed to stink.

  - Man/Woman relationship:
French men are said to think they are superior to women.
They are thought to be male chauvinistic.

=> These are stereotypes / clichés / preconceived ideas / broad generalizations because of course it's not true for everyone.

Then we continued the lesson with a recap of what had said in the previous lesson and we tried to understand more things from the document "I am Canadian"

Here is what we finally wrote:

In the video, the speaker is very enthusiastic and proud of his country.

He denies some of the stereotypes about Canadians:

He's not a lumberjack or a fur trader even if Canadians are said to be so.

He doesn't have a redneck accent.

He doesn't own a dog sleigh or live in an igloo.

He doesn't eat blubber.

But he does love hockey and his country flag with a maple leaf on it (the country's emblem).

HW:

- apprendre la leçon et le nouveau vocabulaire.

- terminer les phrases de la trace écrite (en commençant par "even if")
