today I first gave you some more explanations about what you'll have to do for next Thursday (audio guide) and I also talked to you about Mr Brot's penpal project. So you can log on to his blog down here. Don't forget to introduce yourselves in the Bloggy Boulga Section before posting in the Pen Pals section. You may need to register on Eklablog to be able to post in the forum.

Then we resumed the lesson with listing stereotypes that you had to find about Canadians. Here is what we finally said:

Le passif = Sujet + Groupe Verbal + cpmt

                                    BE + p.passé

Utilisation: Le sujet de la phrase n’est pas la personne qui fait l’action du verbe

Ex : People say that… devient ->

- Canadians are said to + BV

(believe) -> are believed to ...

(think) -> are thought to ...

- Canada is believed to be cold

List of stereotypes:

"to be written by Anais"

Eventually, we watched a video in which a "crazy" Canadian man was talking about Canadian clichés. You can watch it down here again:

Here is what we said about the video (you had to select and/or add some stereotypes that we had(not) mentioned before and that were present in the ad):

“I am Canadian” video:

The man in the video is talking about Canadian stereotypes and he is trying to debase / destroy them on the one hand; but on the other hand he is confirming some of them.

He is proud of his country and his culture (languages, flag, emblem, political system, sports…).

In the end he opposes his culture to that of the USA. He says that they are “the best part of north America”, i.e.(= that is to say) Americans are inferior to Canadians.

Voc:

(to) sew, a sewing machine

A beaver

A fur trader

Blubber

(to) own = (to) possess/have

A landmass

A “toque” = a hat

HW:

- apprendre la leçon et être capable d'en faire le recap + connaître la liste de TOUS les stéréotypes que nous avons trouvés sur les canadiens (cf. they are said to... / believed to... / thought to ...)

More information about... "Blubber" here.
