http://mosaic2011.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/mexican-immigration1.jpgHey,

today we first talked about new year's resolution to see if you had any. Here is what we wrote:

Priscillia has given up on taking resolutions because she never respects / abides by them. Even if she smokes, she hasn't decided to quit.
As for Julien's parents, they smoke too but they don't intend to quit either. Julien has gotten used to his parents smoking. He doesn't mind it even if it's dangerous for his health.

Then we continued speaking about our text and particularly about Ana's situtation. Here is what we said:

Ana's difficult conditions of travel:

Ana had to suffer many ordeals / hardships before reaching New York, her final destination.
She used many means of transport:
First, she had to cross the border illegally. She used the drainpipes not to be caught by the police / border patrol.

Then, she had to trudge across the Arizona desert. She also travelled by car but she needed to scrunch on to the floor not to be seen by the police.

Finally she took a plane from Los Angeles to New York.
It must have been a very hard / a tiring / an exausting / a painful trip.
Her mind must have been disturbed because she was certainly preoccupied both by the police and by her children since she travelled alone / without them.

HW: complete the two exercises from the worksheet.

Files: download the worksheet here again.
You can download a copy of the text here again.
