Today, we started a new sequence on Ireland.

I played the beginning of a video but without the image and you had to guess where the scene might take place and justify your choices.

Here is the extract again:

Here is what we said:

- about Ireland:
"Ireland is divided into two parts. The first part, Ulster, belongs to the United Kingdom whereas / while the other part, Eire, is independent. Ulster is mainly Protestant whereas / while Eire is mostly Catholic. The I.R.A wants Ulster to be free whereas / while the United Kingdom wants to keep Ulster."

-about the document:
"I can hear the sounds of drums and of bagpipes. I recognize a song by the Irish band U2. These sounds are the clues how I can say the scene might take place in Ireland.
The drums grow quicker and quicker, louder and louder. It creates tension and suspense.
Then there is the explosion of shattered / broken glass.
"
"It might take place in the street, at school, or at a concert because I can hear people who are talking / chatting."

Grammar: le comparatif graduel - de plus en plus ... = more + adjectif long and more + adjectif long ou comme c'est le cas ici: adjectif court + er and adjectif court + er.
L'expression de la supposition peut se faire à l'aide d'un auxiliaire modal (ici: might + verbe).

We'll watch the video with the image next time so that you can confirm if your hypotheses were right or not.

HW: For those who haven't turned in their essay on technology, I need them in my mailbox before 8 p.m. tonight. Cliquez sur "Do you need help?" à droite de l'écran pour ouvrir un formulaire de contact et m'envoyer votre devoir.
