Today we reviewed how to present a super hero with two of your classmates who spoke. Then, we continued working on your grammar and we determined when to use the two present tenses in English.

Here are the rules in French:

"to be written by Camille"

HW: you need to complete the two sheets for next module.

Today,

you first took a vocabulary test... I have already corrected them and they are really POOR!! You should be ashamed of your lack of efforts!

Then we continued our activity with the intonation of the questions. And finally we began to speak about our new sequence on "Global Warming and Climate Change".

Here is what we wrote:

"to be written by Alexandre T."

Tell me if some of your parents are going to come for the meeting on Saturday. Thanks.

"to be written by Cyril"

Then we continued on speaking about the comic book and the movie. The question was: Do you think the movie is a good adaptation from the comic book? why? and why not?

Here is what we said about the differences and the similarities:

"to be written by Cyril"

Finally we worked on how to pronounce questions and have a good intonation.
Here is the rule (in French):

"to be written by Cyril"

HW: You will have a vocabulary test on Thursday about body beauty. Be prepared to talk about the differences between the movie and the comic book too.

Today after talking about the favorite subjects in class of some of you we continued speaking about the two types of present in English and finished correcting the exercises you had to complete for today.

NB: il est important de pouvoir expliquer les raisons de l'utilisation de tel ou tel temps et de savoir ne pas les mélanger dans leur application et leur construction à toutes les formes (affirmative, interrogative, négative).

HW: your English test is taking place next week on Thursday.

Hey,

today we first warmed up about what you like doing when you are not at school.
Here is what we said:

"to be written by Thomas G."

Then some of you were orally interrogated about super heroes. You need to prepare yourself more otherwise you will never make progress!

Amine, be sure that next module, you'll have an oral test because your performance today was really bad. Not to mention your own behaviour, Chahid, Rochella, and Camille's...

Finally, we started a new activity about the use of the two present tenses: Present Simple and Present Be+ing.

HW: for next module, you need to complete the 1st page of the worksheet.

You can download the worksheet here again:

Hey,

today we first warmed up with reviewing what you could say about page 3 from the comic book Spiderman. Then we worked on a video document.

It is the extract from Spiderman which corresponds to the comic book. You had to spot out the similarities and the differences. We made two columns and we wrote 3 sentences.

Here is what we wrote in the copybook:

"to be written by Axel V."

You can watch the scene again down here:

We'll continue speaking about similarities next time.

HW
: you need to prepare sentences about the difference between the movie and the comic book using 3 different structures:

- Contrary to ...
- ... whereas ...
- ... while ...

As I attended your "conseil de classe" this afternoon, you didn't have class with me.
I'll see you on Tuesday and I hope you will have completed your assignement, i.e. being able to speak about the last page from Spiderman for about 3 to 5 minutes: present, describe, analyse, and comment.

See you then.

Today,

we first did a little guessing game about where I was yesterday night. You had to ask me questions and I gave you some answers.
Then we worked on asking questions again about superheroes so that you could fill in your worksheet about The Hulk, Superman, Spiderman, and Daredevil.

Here is what we wrote in the copybook:
"to be written by Camille".

HW
: for next time, you will need to present any of the 4 super heroes (physical and moral portrait, powers, story, love interest, ...). You presentation will last about 3 to 5 minutes. Get ready to answer my questions too. You will be graded.

This morning with the whole class, we first warmed up with why I was a little late in class. Here is what we wrote:

"to be sent by Romain Ferjule"

Then, we studied the last page from Spiderman.

There was a secretary for each person that spoke about a panel. Here are the notes that we took while they were speaking:

"to be sent by Romain Ferjule"

HW: you will be able to speak about the document at the beginning of the class in a row (d'un seul trait).

Hey,

today in "module" I asked you to speak about the picture p. 152 that you had to comment. You need to improve your analysis. I'll be asking other students next time again.

Here is an example of presentation. It's not perfect but it's a rather good one:

The document is a picture where there are two parts. In the first part, we can see a white family at the bottom who is sitting in a garden. They look surprised and they are looking at the second family who feels happy and impressed. Contrary to the white family, they are standing and clad with their traditional dress. It's a black family.

To me, the scene takes place in the USA and the goal of this picture is to denounce discrimination which treats people differently in society.
The photographer aims at criticizing segregation. In this photo, the separation is represented by the fence which is separating Africans from Americans. Segregation in the 20th century in America was when the Blacks and the Whites couldn't blend.

To my mind, this picture is a good representation of discrimination. Martin Luther King and Rosa Park are the symbols of this conflict. When I see some people wanted to change society and make people aware of these inequalities through paintings, photos, speeches or parades, I'm grateful to them.

The picture attains its objective. I like this photo because it denounces very well the implicit problems of American society in the 20th century.

(by Rochella D.)

Group 2: then we started a new activity about grammar on how to differentiate between Present Simple and Present Be + ing.
You may download the documents here:
"yet to be uploaded..."

Group 1: Then we started a new activity that was initially designed by Miss Fernandes, a colleague in the academy of Caen. We first described the pictures of the superheroes.

HW
: You need to finish the description of each picture and prepare the questions to ask to your partner about the missing elements in your worksheet.

Hey,

with the whole class, we first did a warm up about sports and superheroes.
Here is what we said:

"to be written by Romain Hamon"

Then we continued speaking about the 2nd page from Spiderman. Here is what we wrote:

"to be written by Romain Hamon"

Remember : Use present BE + ING when you describe the actions in a visual document.

You can download the last page here:

HW
: Finally I gave you your homework for next time (Tuesday morning). You need to be able to describe the third page of Spiderman, panel by panel. You will have an oral test about it. If you want, you can send your draft (brouillon) to me by email.

Hey,

today we finished viewing how to present, describe and comment a document.

Here is what we said:

III - Describe, comment, and analyse

1) Describe :
- Who ? -> characters
- Where ? ->Place
- When ? -> Time
- What is happening ?
- What happened ?
- What will hapen?
- How? -> feelings

2) Comment
-> the pictures shows that ...
It makes us aware of ...
It proves...
It criticizes...

The photographer wants to ...
  • ... pinpoint the fact that ...
  • ... highlight the fact that ...

IV - Give your opinion

To me, ...
As far as I am concerned, ...
To my mind,
...

In the second part of the hour, you had to focus on describing the picture in your book p. 152. As you didn't have time to finish today, you need to complete this as a homework for next time. You will need to be able to speak about this picture for about 2 to 5 minutes. Your oral presentation will be graded.

After warming up about the poster you had to make about your super hero, you took a vocabulary test about body parts in including phonetics.

Then, we reviewed how to present a document and we began filling in a grid about the 2 page from Spiderman using the method seen in class about picture description.

Here is what we said about the 1st two panels:

1) The panel is an extract from the comic book entitled Spiderman. It depicts Peter Parker and his uncle who is waking him up in his bedroom. His uncle is rubbing Peter's hair; He looks caring and loving while Peter looks extremely tired.

2) In the 2nd panel, Peter is having breakfast with his uncle and his aunt. He is eating wheatcakes, his favorite meal. They are all enjoying themselves. They look extremely happy

Remember:
- Use Present Be + ing when describing actions. DO NOT USE it when the verb is a state verb.
- les adjectifs en -ing sont "actifs". ex: loving = qui aime = aimant // loved = qui est aimé = aimé, apprécié.

Hey,

today we first spoke about family relationship as a warm up. Here is what we said:

"to be written by Rayane"

Then, after reviewing what we had said about the first panel from the comic book Spiderman, you had to work in groups of 2, 3, or 4.
Everyone had a special role: spokesman, secretary, grammar keeper, or pronunciation keeper.

You can download page 2 here:

For next time, the spokesman will have to present their work to the class.
